It has been over fifteen years since Jason Voorhees last graced the big screen courtesy of the 2009 remake of Friday the 13th and, since then, fans have been craving any Camp Crystal Lake content they can get. A new movie seems completely out of reach, with the A24 prequel series undergoing a creative reevaluation following the departure of showrunner Bryan Fuller. At this point, fans will take anything, and it looks like Arrow Video has heard the call, because they have just announced a killer new 4K edition of the 2009 remake that is loaded with special features, including two cuts of the film.

A 4K UHD edition of 2009's Friday the 13th remake is coming Arrow Video in September. Fans will especially be interested in the limited edition features on the disc that include the theatrical cut and extended killer cut of the film, a double-sided foldout poster featuring original and newly commissioned artwork by Gary Pullin, a collector's booklet, and a reversible sleeve featuring original and new artwork, also from Pullin. The disc will also include new interviews and audio commentary tracks from director Marcus Nispel and writers Mark Swift and Damian Shannon, and several other features. Swift and Shannon confirmed their participation in the release via their X page.

The movie followed Clay Miller (Jared Padalecki) as he desperately searches for his missing sister Whitney (Amanda Righetti) following her encounter with Jason Voorhees (Derek Mears) after camping out with a group of friends near Crystal Lake. In addition to Padalecki and Righetti, the film also stars Danielle Panabaker, Aaron Yoo, Travis Van Winkle, Ben Feldman and Willa Ford.

The Friday the 13th Remake Failed to Reinvigorate the Horror Franchise - Here's Why

Despite debuting with impressive numbers, the Friday the 13th remake died a quick death at the box office & failed to revive the franchise.

When the film was initially released, it proved to be quite successful at the box office, opening to a record $43.5 million, making it the second highest-grossing film in the franchise at the domestic box office by the end of its opening weekend. However, the shine was a bit short-lived because not only were critics unimpressed (they have never been when it comes to Friday the 13th) but fans were also mixed about the execution of the remake.

The polarizing response to the film was evident when it tumbled 80.4% in its second weekend to $7.9 million, dropping from first place to sixth place in the process. The movie grossed $65 million domestically and $92.7 million worldwide on a $19 million budget by the end of its run, making it financially successful, but suggesting with its quick decline that it wasn't the film the fans necessarily wanted.

Since the film's release, Jason has been kept at the bottom of Camp Crystal Lake, thanks to legal matters regarding the franchise's rights that went on for years. The matter has since been resolved, but it has still made situations with the rights especially murky in terms of what can be used and what can't in regard to the 1980 original film and its subsequent sequels. A24 is still working on the prequel series, despite the creative hiccup with Fuller, and the multi-platform Jason Universe also promises more Friday the 13th related content.

Since a new film isn't coming anytime soon, this new 4K edition of the 2009 remake might be something to soften the blow for fans of Jason's return to his home fifteen years ago.

The 4K UHD edition of 2009's Friday the 13th is expected this September.
