Two people were killed in a motorcycle crash on U.S. 35 in LaPorte County.
LaPorte County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a report of a motorcycle crash with injuries at3400 north block of US 35 at 1:10 p.m. Sunday. It turned out to be a double fatality.
"The initial on-scene investigation completed by Deputies Andy Morse and Sawyer Laffoon determined the following had occurred," LaPorte County Sheriff's Office Administrative Captain Derek J. Allen said in a press release. "A green 2012 Can-Am Spyder motorcycle was traveling northwest on US 35. For an unknown reason, the motorcycle left the east side of the roadway in the 3500 north block. The motorcycle traveled across a lawn and collided with a tree and landscaping. The motorcycle continued traveling off the roadway and crashed into some boulders, before coming to rest in a vegetable garden."

Both the motorcycle rider and a passenger were thrown off the bike during the apparent single-vehicle accident.
The motorcycle driver was identified as Steven A. Dabney, a 58-year-old Kingsford Heights resident. The passenger was identified as 59-year-old Kingsford Heights resident Anna M. Thomas, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Dabney was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators are awaiting the results of toxicology tests.
Captain Andy Hynek, Sergeants Nate Battleday and Ryan Elco*ck, Detective Jake Koch, Deputies Jacob Payne, Xavier Biggerstaff and Dylan Hisick, the Trail Creek Police Department, the LaPorte County EMS, the LaPorte County Coroner’s Office, the Center and Springfield Township Volunteer Fire Departments and Cloverleaf Towing all assisted with the response to the crash.
